Muhami may collect and process the following kinds of personal data about you from the sources identified, including but not limited to, the website www.muhami.ae or through the Muhami mobile application (“Platform”), when you create a User or Client Account (collectively “Account”) with us.
Data you give us or we ask you:
- Contact details that are necessary for creating and registering for an Account such as your name, email address, billing address, contact telephone numbers, P.O. Box, your national identity number and / or your business license number if you are a law firm in the United Arab Emirates;
- Demographic information such as your age, gender, and nationality;
- Evidence of your Education or professional qualifications;
- Certain identity information such as the number of employees, focus areas and other related information;
- Credentials such as your passwords, password hints, and similar security information used for authentication and account access;
- Certain payment information is collected by our payment gateway provider necessary for the facilitation of transactions over the Platform. This is credit/debit card numbers, expiration dates and security code;
- Web form information you provide in our enquiry forms (forms that you choose to complete will indicate whether the information requested is mandatory or voluntary); and
- Feedback and rating information you provide to us such as survey feedback.
Data we collect about you online:
When you browse or otherwise access our Platform, we may automatically collect the following data:
- Account history information related to the Services you purchase, and the activities associated with your account such as subscriptions, searches, lawyers, articles and law firms visited;
- Cookie and tracking information such as IP address, device identifier, location data, browser type and language, access times, the Uniform Resource Locator (URL), other unique identifiers, and other technical data that may uniquely identify your device, system or browser;
- Error reports and performance information of the transactions facilitated by us for you on the Platform and any problems you experience, including error reports; and
- Troubleshooting and help information when you contact us to facilitate a transaction or for support Services, phone conversations, or chat sessions with our representatives which may be monitored and recorded.
We may receive personal data about you from other sources, such as:
- Third parties that are engaged by us to assist with providing verification services, and to improve our marketing effort;
- Service providers, law enforcement, government records or other publicly accessible directories and sources; and
- From social media platforms which typically include basic public profile information such as your username or nickname, your profile picture, and country.

The Platform uses "Cookies" to enable you to sign in to your Account and to help personalise your online experience. These technologies and the data collected about you may be used to track your activity across multiple devices. Where appropriate, we use Cookies to store your preferences and other data on your computer and mobile devices in order to save you time by eliminating the need to enter the same data repeatedly.

- To provide you with our Service which includes providing lawyers and law firms a directory service using the Platform for sharing knowledge, branding and profile marketing and business development purposes on the Platform;
- To create and register a new Account, or to update your current Account;
- To manage our relationship with you, which will include notifying you about changes to our Terms of Use or Privacy Policy or asking you to leave a review or take a survey;
- To process your transactions through your Account, such as payment of the Fee, etc.;
- To provide you with appropriate information and updates about Muhami and our Services;
- To give you access to your Account statement and our Services;
- To communicate with you in relation to your Account, any promotions you participate in, your use of our Services and any enquiries or comments made by you;
- To provide newsletters and news and financial information that you have subscribed to receive from us;
- To understand your needs and interests and to respond to your enquiries;
- To analyse and improve our Services;
- To verify and/or identify you; or
- For purposes otherwise set out in this Privacy Policy.
We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. Our legal bases for collecting and using your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy, will depend on the personal data concerned and the specific context in which we collect it. We will comply with the applicable data protection legislation. In general, we collect and process your personal data on one or more of the following legal bases:
- Your consent, for example where we have obtained your consent to process your personal data for certain activities. You are free to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details under “Our Contact Information” below. If you withdraw your consent, it will not affect the lawfulness of any processing based on your consent before you withdrew it. Where applicable, we may ask for your consent to processing at the point where you provide your personal data;
- To comply with a contractual obligation;
- Our Legitimate interest; or
- For compliance with our legal obligations where applicable laws require the processing of your personal data or where we need your personal data to protect your vital interests or those of another person.
Who we share your personal data with
We may share or provide access to your personal data amongst our affiliates and business units, third party agents, service providers and contractors outside of Muhami:
- for the purpose of the management and administration of Muhami’s business;
- in order to facilitate the provision and enhancement of Services to you (for example, payment of Fees for subscription to the Membership Plan);
- for the purpose of the administration and maintenance of the databases storing personal data;
- for the purposes of Muhami receiving services (for example, Muhami's accountants, administrators, auditors, service providers, paying agents, professional advisors, IT and communications providers or any entity we reasonably consider necessary for the purposes outlined above). These third parties will be expected to be subject to data processing agreements and confidentiality requirements as required by law (either by contract, professional obligation, duty or otherwise) that require them to only use your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy; or
- as part of a transaction, financing, or for other business needs (for example, for payment of Fees, or if Muhami sells any of its businesses or assets, applies for a loan, or opens bank accounts, in which case Muhami may need to disclose your personal data to the prospective buyer, lender or bank, as the case may be, as part of certain due diligence processes).
We may share anonymous or aggregated data with third parties such as service providers in order to facilitate our business operations.
We may share your personal data with law enforcement, officials, or other government bodies:
- to the extent required by law;
- to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights; or
- in order to investigate unauthorised attempts to modify the Platform, install harmful files or cause damage to the Platform or to Muhami.
For example, if Muhami is compelled by an obligation or a duty to disclose your personal data where we believe it is necessary or appropriate to comply with any legal obligation, rule, regulations or Muhami policies and procedures, including (without limitation) in order to comply with statutory reporting and disclosures to regulatory authorities. This may include disclosure to regulatory bodies or government agencies.
Overseas transfers of personal data
The personal data that you provide through the Platform is processed and stored in the Dubai Investment Financial Centre (the “DIFC”).
We may transfer data that we collect from you to third party agents, service providers and contractors outside of Muhami who are based in countries/regions outside of the DIFC, where permitted by applicable laws, or if we have your consent.
Personal data stored in another jurisdiction may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in that jurisdiction according to its laws. Whether the personal data you provide to us is processed by us or services providers within the DIFC or outside of it, we will take steps to ensure that your personal data will be afforded the level of protection required of us under and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws and in accordance with current legally recognised data transfer safeguards, such as appropriate approved standard contractual clauses, Data Protection Agreements, etc.
How we protect your personal data
We use up to date data storage and security to hold your personal data securely in electronic and physical form to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorised modification or unlawful destruction or accidental loss. Whilst we have put in place technical and organisational procedures to secure and safeguard your personal data, the Platform may from time to time contain links to other platforms not controlled by us. We do not accept responsibility or liability for the privacy practices, data collected or the content of such other platforms. The operators of these linked platforms are not under a duty to abide by this Privacy Policy. If there are terms and conditions, other privacy statements or policies appearing on those platforms, you should also review them carefully as your use of those sites may be subject to them.
We encourage you to keep any passwords you use confidential and to be careful to avoid "phishing" scams where someone may send you an electronic message that appears to be from us asking for your personal data. We will not request your ID or password through electronic messages.
How long we retain your personal data
We will keep your personal data while you have an account with us, or we are providing the services to you. Thereafter, we will keep your personal data for as long as is necessary:
- to respond to any questions, complaints or claims made by you or on your behalf;
- to show that we treated you fairly; and
- to keep records required by law.
We will not retain your personal data for longer than necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. When it is no longer necessary to retain your personal data, we will delete or anonymise it.

- have personal data deleted or any inaccurate personal data about you corrected;

- right to lodge a complaint with the DIFC Data Protection Commissioner.

If you withdraw your consent, it will not affect the lawfulness of any processing based on your consent before you withdrew it.
If you would like to exercise any of your rights in relation to the personal data we hold about you or wish to correct, update or remove your personal data as swiftly as possible. Processing of personal data for marketing purposes
We may contact you by mail, e-mail, SMS/text, telephone and other electronic means for direct marketing purposes to provide information on products and services that we believe will be of interest, to the extent permitted by applicable law or with your consent, unless you object to receiving such information. If you do not want to receive such communications from us please contact us on the details set out below or by using the opt-out facilities provided within the relevant marketing material.
Your option not to receive promotional and marketing material: (a) shall not preclude us from corresponding with you, by email or otherwise, regarding your relationship with us (e.g., your account status and activity or our responses to questions or inquiries you pose to us); (b) shall not preclude us, including our employees, contractors, agents and other representatives, from accessing and viewing your personal data for the purposes as set out in this Privacy Policy; and (c) shall not preclude us from disclosing your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy for purposes other than sending you promotional and marketing materials.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The amended Privacy Policy will be posted on the Platform. Please check this page regularly for changes to this Privacy Policy. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy we will notify you and obtain your consent (if required by applicable law) before they take effect either through the Platform or by sending you a notification. Any such material changes will only apply to personal data collected after the revised Privacy Policy took effect.
